![]() Wooli EscarpmentEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board 96x189cm Exhibited in; 2014 JADA along with a travelling exhibition throughout regional NSW & QLD This work was produced following visits to the coastal village of Wooli. The Estuary & the surrounding Yuraygir National Park are such pristine & beautiful places that is seems incongruous to have such battle scarred escarpment overlooking it all. Almost like a rampart, beaten & torn, protecting valuable ecosystems from further intrusion. | ![]() Wooli Escarpment- DetailEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board. | ![]() Wooli Escarpment- DetailEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board. |

![]() Where do we go now?Enamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board. 119 x 232 cm. Exhibited in; 2014 Wynne Prize. This painting is the culmination of many works produced from a trip to the coastal village of Wooli, evolving from sketches of a natural arbour in the tightly knit, windblown banksia heathlands of the Yuraygir National Park. Travelling these pathways, you can’t help but feel a sense of foreboding..... | ![]() Where do we go now?- Detail....It is increasingly evident that our political leaders have hijacked the direction in which we are travelling in regards to environmental stewardship. As a nation, we need to take action for the future of the natural world we share. For with our apathy we will pay. This begs the question, ‘Where do we go now?’ | ![]() Slowly Goes the NightEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board 79 x 79 cm Exhibited in; 2013 Campbeltown Art Prize; 2014 Gosford Art Prize; 2014 "Art 3k". |

On the western side of the Wooli estuary is a huge sand escarpment. Through the natural vegetation, children have carved a sand-slide where they can slide down right to the waters edge at high tide. I can imagine children have been doing this for thousands of years. |

This work comes from The Lonely Tower Series in which I have alluded to the past relationship between; W.B Yeats’ “The Phases of the Moon”, Samuel Palmers’; “The Lonely Tower” and Milton’s “Il Penseroso”. | ![]() The Lonely Tower- DetailEach of these, instilled with rich romanticist imagery, expresses the trials of life, death & the journey along the way. Although inspired by the quixotic poetry of Yeats, the Tower has also been physically modelled off the colonial sandstone structure of the “Mental Asylum” at Callan Park in Sydney. The immediate reflection, in regards to the referenced poetry, explores the lost aspirations of a man entrenched in a tower, forever to meditate on the cycles & the moods of the world we live in... |
![]() The Lonely Tower- Detail...However, it is the physical origins of the Tower that offers a further profundity, into the possible nature of this man’s concealment, subtly proposing thought of the treatment of patients in old Mental Asylums and the suppression of their ambitions, like the extinguishment of the light on the tower. | ![]() Empty KibbleEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board. 79 x 79 cm. | ![]() Safe from the Rising TideEnamel on polyester, over acrylic on prepared board. 141x200cm. |
